My first post on Little Victorian is about a little colonial. A very little colonial. Ever since seeing Emily Henderson’s “I Am A Giant” challenge, I laid in bed thinking about minis. Almost every piece of fabric or cardboard scrap I’ve seen, I’ve thought about things I could make out of it for a dollhouse. I found a house on CL and had my heart set on it, but by the time I decided to buy it, it was already sold, and so were the next 4 that I liked. I tried to make a dollhouse from scratch, but it kind of sucked the fun out of it for me, so I stopped and gave up. But, today I decided to go to Goodwill one more time. And there it was. It was painted so bright pink that when I walked past it, I assumed it was a silly plastic one, but when I did a double take and saw the wood and the shutters and the front porch and the three stories and wooden staircases, I grabbed it as fast as I could and ran to the check out line.
For $25 it practically felt like I was stealing it. Before, I was willing to pay twice that for literally half as much house. I went straight to Home Depot to buy paint and flooring and the craft store to buy wallpaper. I repainted the outside as soon as I got home.
It’s a warm gray with high-gloss navy shutters and doors and chocolate brown roof and porch floor.
The floor plan really needs to be figured out. I think I’ll have to add a few walls (there’s no place for a potty!) and it will be challenging to work around that load-bearing wall. The living room may not get to be on the same floor as the dining room and kitchen. We’ll see.

This is so cool Christina! I had a Victorian Doll House that was ginormous. Literally, we had to crate it to bring it from California to Oregon. I finally conceded to sell it on Craigslist because it was unfinished and I knew it was a project I would never get to. I wish I could say that I sold it to a gal that appreciated it as much as you do yours. Sadly, I don’t think I did.
