Nice to meet you
I’m Christina, and I think making beautiful homes got way too complicated.
DIY renovator, planner, and firm believer that anyone can turn their current home into their dream home with just a little learning and a little practice. I’ve done it, and I’ve helped many others do it themselves too.

My story (the short version)
I’ve been reading and collecting interior design books since I was in my early teens, it’s always been something that got me really excited. Vintage books are the best by the way, they’re often full of the foundations of good design instead of just pictures or trends like so many modern ones.
My very favorite is New Creative Home Decorating, originally from 1946. It’s so detailed about the whys and hows, and it also has tons of fun practical examples.
This site is everything I learned, and organized all these years: the why and how, then the decorating. Because once you understand how good design works, you don’t need trends or Pinterest to make your home look great.

What I believe about your home
Four principles behind every guide and project on this site.
Your home should work for your life
Functionality is your foundation, and necessary to making home-life easy.
You don't need a design degree
It would be awesome to have one, but don't be intimidated, it's not required to have a beautiful home.
Style is personal, not trendy
Once you define your own style, your house won't look just like everyone else's...and be dated in 2 years.
Simple changes make a difference
It doesn't take a full remodel. The right small change can shift how a room feels in an afternoon.
How we got here
Started the blog with the Little Victorian (often featuring my miniatures hobby).
2016Sold and moved to the Mid-Century Modern 😍 Then back home to the East Coast with a 50s ranch.
2021Moved away to a cabin in the mountains.
2026Slow-motion working on all the projects, inside and out!
Five things about me
- Since adulthood, I've lived in 11 rentals (only 2 were traditional apartments) and owned 4 houses.
- I'm a programmer and have owned my own web development business since 2014.
- My very first apartment was one-room carriage house with a loft for a bedroom. My current house is a one-room cabin with a loft for a bedroom.
- I'm a pet sitter with a dog and cat of my own, 12 chickens. My place is always full of animals.
- I love gamifying tasks.
