We are making progress in the kitchen. Last time you saw it, it looked like this:
We were hoping to re-use the vent for the new range hood, but the hole was almost 2 feet too low and it was the wrong shape. So we put a new hole in the wall and patched the old one. And then we applied a lot of mud to a very lumpy wall. Yesterday, I got the first two coats of paint up. Just like the living room (and eventually the bathroom), it is my favorite white: Marth Stewart’s Tailors Chalk.
It feels so big and fresh with the white walls, I’m crazy about it. The lower cabinets will eventually get a fresh coat of paint in the same color as the walls. We’re still having a really hard time finding brackets for the open shelving that we like and are a price we are happy with. Right now there seems to be no middle ground between “Okay” for $100 and “Gorgeous” for $300. Since there is going to be a lot of contrast in the room, we also want the finish of the brackets to match the knobs. Picky, picky, picky…

I’m crazy about it too!! It’s fresh. Wonderful work with hiding that huge hole from the wall and the small ones too.
Would the “gorgeous” one be too expensive, I mean it is a very long term investment, so that might be reason enough to spend a little.

Thanks, Leena! The Hubs was thinking the same as you, so we splurged. 🙂 I do agree that it’s worth it, I just don’t like spending money that I hadn’t planned on, but we made room in the budget.

It already looks so much better. It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do!
