Welcome to Little Victorian

Turn your home into your dream home. No experience required.

There are a lot of guides and projects on this site. You don’t need all of them today, here’s where to begin, whether you’re new to home decorating or just stuck somewhere.

The 5-step beginner path

Work through this in order and you’ll have a great foundation to get started making your home yours.

  1. Figure out what you actually like
Start here because everything else (what to buy, what to fix, how to decorate) depends on knowing your style first.

  2. Make your home easier to live in
Before adding anything, clear the noise. This will give you a fresh start to work with and help with all the following steps.

A few honest answers before you dive in

Do I need to redo my whole house?

Only if you want to! You can start with your problem area first (usually kitchens and living room/entryways for me) and go through the steps of simplifying, planning, then projects and decorating.

What if I don’t have a big budget?

Believe it or not, the biggest impact you can make in your house is usually simplifying. And that’s free! Once you’ve simplified, you’ll be amazed at how much more storage space AND things you already have that you can decorate with.

What if I’m just bad at this?

You won’t be! Nobody starts off knowing their style. Once you learn a few tricks to figuring yours out, and a few design principles, you’ll get the hang of it.
