We have a new kitchen table!
Of course, it’s from Goodwill, and it started out like this:
Here’s the story:
With all of the lines in our kitchen being straight, it really need the balance of some curves. I had been dreaming of one of those big, chunky-wood round tables for the breakfast area to round things out. But then I saw this one for only $15.
It’s not at all what I had in mind, and I definitely would prefer the top to be more substantial, but it was round, and it was different. And it was $15. I picked up a 36” circular piece of wood at Home Depot for another $15.
First, I sanded and spray painted the base a glossy navy, then I screwed the new table top right to the old one from underneath. The bare wood was stained with “Sunbleached” by Varathane and given four coats of Polycrylic gloss-finish sealer.
And here is the new kitchen table.
The old gate leg table is still behind it, it will be moved to the dining room and used as a mini buffet. Now, on to the chairs. The black’s not doing anything for me against the navy and gray table. What do you think? Paint them white?
Audra
What a nice change! Is it too much black if you painted the table base black? I didnt notice the navy until you mentioned it, but now it is all I see.

Originally, I considered black for the base, but our kitchen has no color, so I was really dying for at least a little bit. Just really not digging the black and navy combo there.
Beth Lemon
No! Paint them navy. That would be so beautiful. Then make a little runner for the new “buffet” that picks up the navy and the color of the table top.

The table looks gorgeous! I think white chairs would be nice with it! Maybe with navy details?
btw, I noticed you moved the sidebar to the right again, I like it 😉
